Inside

Awake

I listen to the earth’s gentle breathing

Exhaling heartache

Unable to hold onto the fear

The rain falls onto the tin roof

Joining the pitter-patter dance of birds

Sound separated only by the thin metal sheet

Inside

I become a bird

Outside

The birds inhale the earth’s gentle breath

Inside

I cannot breathe

Outside

The birds chirp

Inside

I die

Outside

The world remains the same

Inside
