Goldfield

March 19, 2018

as the fall trees question
in their amber light
I sit beside the Salt River
watching Killdeer play
in the slow moving current

I catch myself
looking north
always looking north
where I came from
from which I know
one day I will go back

today I just enjoy
the warmth of the sun
on my left cheek and
realize I have a tan line
on my left side that
I don’t have on my right
                  looking north
