I was gifted a copy of this book over the holidays, and I’m really glad that I had a chance to read it! I’ve been dabbling in Wicca for a year or so now, and I’ve been reading a lot of books on rituals and simple ways to connect with myself and the earth, but until reading this book I hadn’t found a lot that I really liked.
Light Magic for Dark Times is exactly what I was looking for and exactly what I needed. As a beginner Wiccan who is still trying to figure out my path, I’m still not sure what all I believe in, which is where this book has come in really handy. You don’t have to believe in gods or goddesses to get something out of it, you just have to believe in yourself. Or if you’re like me who has difficulties even doing that sometimes, this book is still for you. Basile’s book takes you on a journey towards getting to know yourself, healing yourself and also how to heal your interactions with others.
So far I’ve used only a few of Basile’s rituals, the first I did after a long day and a dentist appointment. The one I used was a A Self Love Ritual for Tapping Into Your Body After a Long Day. It was such a calming ritual, involving a shower, lotion and meditation. Since then I’ve also used A Healing Love Ritual for Your Younger Self, and a few others. I love that this book isn’t caught up in following a ritual in such and such exact way, but rather Basile emphasis that what she does may not work for everyone but that she’s simply providing a framework for others.
Even if you aren’t Wiccan I think this book could be of use. This is a book first and foremost for healing and self-care and love. It’s about honoring yourself and others, which we all need lessons in that sometimes.
I love this book, I’m so glad I have it on hand now and I thoroughly recommend it to everyone. I gave it four stars on Goodreads.
